Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

Writing/Reading Tutor to help you BEAT THE SAT's!!!

I am a Princeton Review Certified SAT tutor with several years experience tutoring students from diverse educational and socioeconomic backgrounds on all sections of the test. I have worked for A-List Education, Catalyst Prep, and the Yleana Leadership Foundation where I honed my tutoring skills; developed a strong understanding of the SAT and various strategies to navigate it; and formulated my own teaching style rooted in actionable tools, clarity, compassion, and facilitator-based learning. Additionally, I am a skilled communicator whose expressive talents as a performer enable me to connect authentically with students and teach information in a clear and compelling manner. I understand that a successful teacher must build a genuine relationship with the student that is built on trust and genuine connection. My background as an artist has equipped me with the necessary tools to facilitate a compassionate and open dialogue between teacher and student. I believe it is this type of approach to teaching that allows a student to really receive the material, internalize it, and ultimately apply it when needed. With regards to my reading skills, I have always had a voracious desire to read and a natural ability to quickly digest and process any subject. I consistently read material that personally interests me, in addition to reading scripts and books for my work as a development associate with my current job at a production/management company. And my experience learning content and strategy with different tutoring companies has given me a robust understanding of how to best navigate the reading passages tested on the SAT. Finally, I have a real passion for teaching that arises from a genuine desire to help students discover their potential and build confidence that extends beyond the SAT and academic pursuits. I believe that this work can truly inspire a self-assurance and tenacity that students can carry with them through their lives.
