English Made Easy!

I am a special education teacher for over 20 years. I have spent the majority of my time working with struggling readers and writers. I have worked with severely dyslexic children, gifted children and everything in between. I have taught every age level from 3 to 18. I thoroughly enjoy lifting these children up and seeing the joy on their faces as they discover new worlds through reading and writing. I currently work in a learning center with high school girls/young ladies. It is wonderful and very rewarding, especially after Covid, when most children fell behind. I have also working in public and private schools in varies states. I found both to be rewarding, and yet the private schools that focused specifically on students with reading challenges were my favorite. I learned SO much from fellow teachers and tons of professional development they provided us on a regular basis. I have tutored so many students over the years I have most certainly lost count. I feel very grateful to be able to relieve the stress that often affects families due to students who struggle with homework and assignments. The families are always so grateful. I have worked at a specialized school for most of my summers that is for students with severe reading issues and need to go to ESY. I never tire of teaching the English language and all of it's challenging nuances. Making it fun and enjoyable has always been a gift of mine and has lead to my successful tutoring career over the years.

TopNotch English, Literacy, and Reading Tutor

I am passionate and love everything about English and Reading. It has been my favorite subject since learning to read. I enjoy reading books, learning about and teaching the Science of Reading, teaching early literacy skills, comprehension, and grammar. In my last position, I worked an online Early Literacy Tutor. I was responsible for a caseload of four student daily in 1:1 sessions and 1:2 sessions for two ten week sessions, one in the fall, and one in the Spring. I provided daily high dosage tutoring to kindergarten through second grade students grounded in the Science of Reading. I implemented an explicit phonics curriculum to support the development of foundational reading skills. I prepared for instruction by reviewing weekly lessons, editing lesson scripts, and creating materials to support and challenge students in their learning. I adapted learning to meet the individual needs of students based on assessment data including scaffolding. Additionally, I built strong student relationships and engagement, infusing students days with joy and sparking a love of reading and learning. I also tracked students' reading skills progress by administering bi-weekly reading assessments. I have ten plus years of experience working with little ones and teaching them early literacy and reading skills, and have taught children of all ages reading and literacy skills. I worked as a fourth grade Academic Intervention Fellow (AIF), a fifth grade Special Education Teacher, and a fifth grade ELA Distance Learning Lead Teacher. I also taught reading intervention for students that were two or more reading levels behind. I know the importance of phonics and literacy, especially in the crucial early stages. I understand reading is a key foundational skill upon which many other skills are built. Having a strong phonics foundation is an essential part of being a good reader and is a confidence boost for a lot of children. Being a good reader can open doors to so many possibilities.

Univeristy Student

For as long as I can remember I have had a certain knack for English, specifically reading. From a young age, I was placed in advanced reading classes and scored high on standardized testing. Once I started my high school career I continued to excel and took an AP English class. Not only do I have experience in the public school system I was also homeschooled for seven years(fourth grade to tenth grade). For my early elementary years, I attended a public school and for my junior and senior of high school, I attended a local high school. I also have years of experience working with kids. I first started volunteering with kids when I was thirteen years old. I would volunteer at my church to work with children. As I got older I continued to volunteer to work with different age groups (K-5th grade). This led to me taking on more responsibilities and leading kids in different group activities (small groups in the church setting). Once I got to high school I continued to volunteer but in addition to working with my church, I started volunteering with my local elementary school. During my time at the elementary school, I worked with the school's robotics team and helped the kids compete in FIRST robotics competitions. As a university student, I have continued to work with local schools to help children succeed. My university's ISE Chapter actually partnered with a local school in the summer of 2021 to tutor children. Now, how does this information make an impact? Well, being homeschooled has taught me how to prepare lesson plans and actively put them into action. My years of experience working with kids in various settings has taught me how to connect with them and make sure they truly understand what is being taught to them. Every child is different and they will all learn differently it is up to us (teachers, tutors, parents, etc.) to find a method that works best for them.
