Master of Instructional Technology and skilled in many trades and topics

As a compassionate and experienced woman, I would like to express my interest and be considered for the current staffing openings with your company. I hold a Master of Science in Instructional Technology, a Bachelors in Liberal Studies, and a clear multiple subjects credential. In college, I was a nanny for a child with autism as well as a deaf child. I assisted with the assessment of these children with physical therapists, and indirectly doctors through noting my care of the child and their day with their parents. Shortly after, I had the opportunity to work at the Oasis tutoring center at CSUB. I helped other college students write essays, resumes, and lead study groups. If I was unsure of a topic, I demonstrated intellectual curiosity and resourcefulness in methods and techniques by going to the head of the program for more information, as well as interviewing department chairs on various topics of study. I additionally helped support fellow college students who had learning disabilities as a notetaker in various courses. I was given the opportunity as a sophomore to lead an English lab or study group to the freshmen students. This helped in grammar and syntax with writing scholarly essays in a range of formats. I was later given the opportunity from the University to work as an instructional assistant at BHS and Liberty high school. I helped the teachers with math in the classroom, then went around the room and conducted mini interventions. At Liberty, I observed and worked with the teachers to help analyze and improve my instructional practices, as well as grow my skills with student centered learning. I helped run the after school tutoring program in the library and assisted with the supervision of students. I had the opportunity to serve on the executive board of my sorority to ensure members maintained grades, and supported them with tutoring and study groups

CSU Political Science Student, Reading Tutor

As soon as I learned how to read it's something I've always been passionate about. It was my favorite subject starting from elementary all the way through high school. I love reading books, poems, novels, and also writing my own literature. In high school, I participated extensively in book clubs as well as receiving A's in all my English/Reading classes. In my book clubs, we would each read a paragraph out loud throughout the entirety of the book, which helped all of us with effortlessly pronouncing and declaring our words clearly. Having a sibling who grappled to understand reading for most of their life , I understand first-hand the struggle of trying to learn how to read. I believe this makes me a proficient tutor for those who are looking to advance their skills in reading because I can understand the difficulty. I have an extensive background in tutoring and coaching students in order to advance their reading skills. l worked with an after school special needs program where I helped several students with their speech class where they had to publicly read passages and long speeches in front of the entire class. Some of the students I helped moved up two reading levels and others were able to move to a more advanced class. I currently tutor my fellow peers at college in reading. I specifically focus on helping freshman with words that are harder to recognize and with reading long passages fluently and accurately; which is something I've seen most people struggle with.

Are READING DEMONS Ruling Your Life? STRIKE BACK! Corrective Reading Builds Fluency & Confidence.

My short story to describe my qualifications and expertise teaching students who struggle to read from grades four on through grade 12 are as follows: 1. Ph.D. in special education from Utah State University. 2. MSW in child welfare and psychiatric social work from the University of California, Berkeley. 3. TEFL Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. 4. TESOL Certificate on IELTS requirements to prepare students taking the IELTS test. 5. 20 years diagnosing and correcting errors and poor reading habits for students ‘in grades 4 through 12. 6. 15 years providing therapeutic and social services children and adolescence who were victims of severe traumatic experiences. 7. Consultant with the US Department of Education to determine what reading curricula is in compliance with standards established for classification as a science of reading curricula. 8. 20 years’ experience in child and adolescent residential facilities where students had comorbid emotional disorders combined with reading disabilities such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum and developmental disabilities. Qualifications are one matter but equally important and perhaps more so is what is behind and supportive of the qualifications? For me it is a passion that every child can be taught to read and it is our obligation to assure every child is given that opportunity, with validated reading curricula and teaching processes. In my early professional years providing therapeutic services for traumatized children and youth I witnessed disastrous effects that failing in their school placements brought to them. It was this realization that drove me back to school where I obtained a doctorate degree in special education. While degrees are perhaps one measure of expertise it is not the only one. For me, of more importance is my experience of having seen the positive effects time and time again that my students take away after solving their problematic reading issues.
