My favorite books to read have always been memoirs, because they so beautifully combine creativity with the author's real story. I see college application essays as a type of memoir. They provide an opportunity to tell your own story creatively, letting your past, passions, and goals guide you. I learned a lot about myself from writing my college essays, and I'd like to help others with that same experience.
I wrote a personal statement essay and what feels like hundreds of supplemental/scholarship essays, and now that I've taken a step back and been through two years of college, I have a pretty good grasp on what works. My essays got me a full ride at my university, as well as several local scholarships and scholarship offers from other universities. Additionally, I worked with a qualified mentor when getting started on my applications, so I do have some structured experience in learning the process.
I don't get to write as much as I used to as an engineering major, so I would love to exercise this passion again as a tutor. The college applications and admissions process is a big deal, and my goal is to help guide students through the experience in a way that will allow their story to shine.
