Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

Shelby Sibert
Clemson, SC

Master's in History Student

I have been studying History throughout my academic career. I initially majored in Theatre and Performing Arts during much of my Associate's in Arts degree at Greenville Technical College. However, when I transferred for my Bachelors's in Arts at Clemson University in the Spring of 2020, my passion for History was reignited more intensely. I received said Bachelor's in Spring 2022 and am working towards my Master's in History. I maintained a solid 3.8 to 4.0 GPA during this time. During my collegiate experience, I have covered almost all areas of history at one point or another; however, my focus and interests have primarily centered around military history. Moreover, I have specialized in World War I and World War II, Weimar Germany, Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, and Military history. A side project in that for myself is Scandanavian Medieval History and Mythology. I firmly believe that those who do not grasp history are destined to miss out on the lessons that history offers, if not repeat the same mistakes found in it entirely. Discussing the ideas, context, and philosophies behind these events is essential to grasp and apply them to our lives. As a Teacher's Assistant at Clemson University, I have helped and hopefully encouraged my undergrad students in pursuing this quest for historical understanding. Helping students gain this understanding is what I pride myself in as a history student, hopeful teacher, and now tutor. With me, my goal is to help you gain a new appreciation, attitude, and perception of history that you may not have considered before.

Brianna Anctil
Boone, NC

Graduate Student, History and Essay Writing Tutor

I have always been a strong student in History and I started taking college level History courses when I was a Junior in high school. I take pride in the fact that I have never earned below an A in any of my work for History courses in high school or in college. Now, I have my B.A. in History with a minor in Education Studies from the University of Southern Maine. I am currently studying for my M.A. in Public History from Appalachian State University. I am interested in sharing my passion for History through teaching. I am comfortable teaching a variety of historical periods and subjects particularly in U.S. History, but I can also help with specific courses like AP U.S. History, AP World History or CLEP U.S. History because I passed these courses in high school. In my undergraduate career I wrote nearly 100 essays and am confident in teaching historical essay outlining, writing, editing, and revising as well. While earning my minor in Education Studies, I had experience putting together lesson plans and assisting in classrooms. I also did the majority of my undergraduate degree online and learned to use various learning tools like Zoom, Jamboard, or Kahoot, for example, to make lessons interactive and engaging for students. I plan to use primary sources and archival materials as often as possible and to draw clear connections between them and the historical themes of the lesson.
