Learn Exactly What You Wish to Know

*** Lesson Details *** Most students want to play the Guitar to play their favorite songs and I'm the same way. Music is something we carry with us in our hearts and minds. Students will learn what they wish to learn and work at a pace that is comfortable to them. Whether you are a student, “weekend warrior” or a parent whose child has expressed an interest in Guitar anyone can learn all there is to know about Harmony and Theory for the Guitar and how to play their favorite songs. We cover theory in an easy and straightforward no nonsense way in the first half of each lesson and then apply it to the song you wish to learn. This creates an atmosphere where you understand and feel at home with the Guitar. You get an understanding right away and because it is immediately fun it allows you to feel comfortable at any level. Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music. After 6 months students will have a solid foundation in theory, and a road map of the guitar fretboard enabling them to advance to an intermediate level if they are ready to do so. Students will know enough that music as it relates to the Guitar, which is the world’s most popular instrument in contemporary music, is not a mystery but is a welcome friend. And they will be able to play songs by popular artists and advance at a pace that is satisfying and enjoyable. ---------------------------- Student Comments: What Students Are Saying About ~ James Teaching Style “James’ patience, knowledge and under-standing made learning guitar fun. Berklee College of Music

I am a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and have a deep passion for music and writing songs, as well as teaching and supporting families. My experience areas include music theory, composition, music history, piano, guitar and vocal technique, songwriting, harmonic ear training and performance skills building. As well as previously mentioned music skills, I also have experience with marketing, licensing, publishing and artist management, supporting emerging artists find their voice and handle the pressures that come with developing in the modern day music industry. My priority as an instructor is to provide the best experience possible in a relaxed setting to help the student build confidence, have a great foundation to form musicianship and create life long memories, finding joy, peace and healing in the participation in music as a life long process. My mission is to be a guide on the side, instilling in students proper technique, while more importantly gently assisting them to develop their own artistry and discover who they truly are through song, as well as supporting them with their own personal goals. I like making acoustic guitar lessons fun and worthwhile for all ages and current level, whether student ranges from beginner to more advanced. I'm a great instructor for learning guitar as your first instrument or helping intermediate players with performance and learning to play their favorite songs, as well as singing and playing guitar at the same time.

Guitar/Bass Lessons with Seasoned Professional

As the son of a piano teacher, I have been around music my whole life. While my first first musical training was, not surprisingly, on piano, it was the discovery of my uncle's Beatles vinyl record collection that sparked my life-long enthusiasm for playing guitar, writing and singing songs. The appeal of The Beatles’ music was, that with a Mel Bay chord book and repeated listening, I could enjoy the thrill of playing along with the records! Playing trumpet in the school band furthered my musical education and though self-taught (and by ear only) on guitar, at age 16 I came to the conclusion that music was my vocation. Enrolling at University of North Texas in Jazz Studies, I quickly discovered how much I had yet to learn. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas, where I completed a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. After taking a year off, I returned to pursue a Master of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance, during which time I began teaching while completing my studies at U.N.T., serving as Graduate Teaching Fellow. I have taught private and class guitar, music theory, music appreciation, and Jazz ensemble at Tarrant County College and El Centro College. I am currently an instructor in beginning class guitar at North Lake College, private guitar/bass lessons and Guitar Ensemble at Brookhaven College. I also have three years' experience teaching private lessons online. Owing to my diverse musical tastes and background, I strive to keep students motivated by playing the music that they love, while imparting the fundamentals of music theory as well as the physical mechanics of playing an instrument. In addition to performing solo classical engagements, I also play guitar with '60s British Invasion band Revolution 9, electric bass with 60's/70's Top 40 cover band Darkest Before Dawn, as well as electric and classical guitar in the vocal Jazz trio Independently Blue.
