Music Instruction, Voice, Piano, Literacy, Reading Tutor

For the past 19 months I have served as a certified reading tutor, providing daily one on one instruction remotely to students K-8th grade with the necessary tools to recognize words and language comprehension so that they can become skillful readers. By utilizing resources developed from the Science of Reading, I tutored students on various components such as developing phonemic awareness, how to recognize words, word comprehension, decoding and fluency so that they can become skillful readers. I also have experience with using online meeting software such as Zoom and have used a variety of annotation tools to reinforce topics as well as create a fun and friendly educational space for students to thrive. Alongside tutoring I have 20 years experience teaching individualized music instruction providing voice and piano music lessons for students ages 4 and up, along with early childhood music for ages infancy-pre-K. I am very passionate about helping students achieve their personal goals through learning. I believe that giving students the tools needed to fine tune their study skills will definitely set them up for success. From my overall experience as a tutor, I believe all students deserve the opportunity to receive tailored instruction to help overcome any challenges with processing and retaining information. It pleases me to help learners overcome challenges, celebrate their successes, and to be a part of the exciting journey of bringing out the best in them.

Ph.D. Chemistry Tutor

I have a natural aptitude for chemistry and an innate ability to make complex concepts accessible for most anyone. I was selected as a tutor for the Valdosta State University Chemistry department due to my professors seeing me excelling at chemistry and helping fellow students to do the same. I taught one year of high school science after graduating with my BS and enjoyed being in the classroom. The experience of watching students who thought science was boring become fascinated by what the were learning was especially rewarding. I left the classroom to continue my own education and entered the graduate program at Auburn University. After a year of teaching freshman chemistry laboratory classes, I was selected to teach senior inorganic laboratory classes due, again, to my mastery of the subject and the ability to make it accessible to young learners. I continued to tutor throughout my graduate and post-doctoral career before leaving science to start a patient advocacy organization for families affected by hereditary colon cancer. I again found myself explaining complex medical terms and surgical procedures to lay people and eventually led the development of patient-friendly educational resources. Most recently, I worked as a subject matter expert for the Electric Power Research Institute, again developing chemistry educational resources for new employees. I truly feel it is a gift to be able to help learners understand the complex field of chemistry and hope to be able to share that gift with you.

Regent Scholar at Pepperdine University

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always been passionate about English. Before I even started Kindergarten, I would email my mom short stories and poems I wrote for her. English was my favorite subject from kindergarten on. I have a love for reading, textual analysis, creative writing, and argumentative essays. Now, I am a Regent Scholar at Pepperdine University. In high school, I earned A's in all my English classes. I was nominated two years in a row by my English teachers as a candidate for the Governor's Honors Program in the subject of writing. I was also selected to join the AP Capstone program which consists of two courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Both courses focus heavily on writing, literature analysis, reading comprehension, and argumentation. I ended both of those courses with high A's. I also participated extensively in Creative Writing Club and Poetry Club. As President of Poetry Club, I spent many hours writing, planning events, and analyzing literature. During this same time I was also a Young Scholar writer for my local city newspaper. I have an extensive background in editing and coaching students. I helped several students with their college application essays during the 2020-2021 college admissions cycle. Some of the students I helped ended up committing to California State Long Beach. I have tutored children of all ages from 2 years old to 18 years old. Most recently I was working on reading and writing comprehension in a classroom of 2-3 year old children. At the same time, I tutored high school students and some college peers in writing.
