Spanish lessons from a Native Speaker

Hi, my name is Rachel! I have been teaching Spanish for the past 3 years. I have taught students both in person and online. For me, it is extremely rewarding seeing the progress my students go through every lesson. Whether it's for personal interest, travel, or school, I've got you covered! Once we've established your starting level and goals, is when the fun truly begins. Every lesson is specially tailored to your age and preferred learning style, so feel free to let me know how you think you learn best. However, there's one thing that's non-negotiable: speaking. We will always be practicing what we learn. Whether it's just "Hola," we'll practice "Hola" in every class! Because essentially that is how we learn, by practicing and utilizing what we learn. So we will always be having conversations together, in Spanish, which will increase as we learn more and more every class. I'll provide you with flashcards and documents to practice what we learn even outside the classroom. In addition, I'll provide you with extra resources like songs, podcasts, movies, books, dishes, and cultural tidbits tailored to your interests so you can dive even deeper into the language and truly immerse yourself. Get ready to be amazed by the diversity of Spanish-speaking countries and the idiomatic expressions that will make you smile and laugh at how silly some of them can be in English! Remember, this journey is yours, and together we'll explore all that Spanish has to offer. Whether you're an enthusiastic beginner or already have a solid foundation, I assure you that every step you take in this class will be an opportunity to grow and enjoy. I am patient and I understand some topics can be difficult so I aim to create a positive environment where asking questions is encouraged. Classes can take place any day of the week and any time virtually, in your house or my house, so feel free to reach out to me about which day is best!

College Essay Writing Tutor

During my first semester at the University of Michigan, I had the fortune of being assigned to an English class section taught by Professor David Karczynski. Being an undergraduate English requirement class, my fellow classmates’ level of interest and mastery of the class topics were markedly diverse. Despite this, (and after assuring us that he was not David Kaczynski and was in no way related to the Unabomber), Professor Karczynski succeeded in engaging the entire class in spirited discussion about the essays, poems and short stories we were assigned to read. After receiving glowing feedback on one of my assignments, I let the classroom empty and hung back shyly when our class time was over to thank the professor for his kind words. He reiterated his praise and finding out that I had not declared a major, suggested that I pursue an English degree. I believed that medicine was my passion, so I objected strongly, citing my ultimate career goal as my reason not to study English. However, being skilled in persuasion, Professor Karczynski proceeded to list physicians and scientists who had obtained medical or science degrees but had still mastered writing as a craft. Not fully convinced, I agreed to consider taking another English class the following semester, even though I would have already fulfilled my undergraduate requirement. Three and a half years later, I graduated from the University of Michigan with two degrees, one in science and the other? English. I believe that the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills that I have honed from my robust undergraduate instruction in English will make me a a well-qualified and passionate College Essay Writing Tutor. Because of the amalgamation of these experiences, I believe that I will be extremely capable of not only helping struggling students with improving their writing but perhaps instilling the same love for writing that I developed in my own undergraduate writing career.
