When it comes to music, I joke that I am a "hack of all trades!" I play piano, violin, guitar, ukulele, sing, and write songs. I have been a student of music since elementary school, but have performed professionally as a fiddle player and vocalist for about fifteen years. I originally trained classically, and started playing "fiddle" around 2008, when I first discovered bluegrass jams and the "Oh Brother Where Out Thou?" soundtrack. Looking to advance my fiddling skills, I took online lessons with a Texas-swing fiddler named Chris Daring. Over the years, I've performed in the styles of American roots, bluegrass, newgrass, jazz blues, pop and folk songs. I love to help people develop their musical confidence by developing knowledge and experience with the mechanics of the violin. I also like to help people use music theory in practical ways, so they can play by ear, improvise and create original music if desired. I have been a teacher for over twenty years to all ages and abilities (art, music, math, language arts), and music specifically for eight years. It's never too late to learn :)

My goal is for my students to be able to learn to play anything they want on their own, and to give them the skills to read, listen, and find the notes on their instrument. My students learn to read music and interpret it, but they also learn to find their own notes. I teach most fiddle styles as well as how to play in a band/band etiquette. My own style is a culmination of learning blues, jazz, Irish, country, and rock fiddle. In addition to teaching, I'm also a songwriter, performer, and recording artist. While at Middlebury, I also went to the Italian Language School, an 8-week program in which students take a handful of college courses in Italian and follow a language pledge that ensures that all communication is done in Italian for the length of the program. In terms of work experience, I have worked as a teaching assistant for a courses titled "Culinary History of Italy" (ITAL 1003).
