Brett Chosewood
Alto, GA

Teacher, Tutor, Lifelong Learner

Hello! My name is Brett Chosewood, and I am an English and Language Arts teacher from Georgia in the United States. I have taught both locally and abroad (in countries such as China, Dubai, and Mexico) for over twelve years. In addition, I also have extensive experience in writing, editing, and communication. My education includes a Bachelor’s in English and a Master’s in English Education (Teaching), both obtained from Piedmont College. I am also currently pursuing a PhD in English Composition from Old Dominion University. I love teaching and tutoring because I get to work with students to meet their individual needs. Each student is unique, and I truly love helping my students achieve their goals. I want to be a valuable resource in the lives of those I help, using my experience as a student and as a teacher. Nothing makes me feel prouder than seeing my students succeed. They teach me as much as I teach them. My style of teaching involves building a strong rapport with my students, determining their individual needs, and tailoring my sessions with them to meet those needs. I try to get feedback from and assess students regularly to ensure they are understanding lesson concepts and progressing appropriately. My greatest accomplishment was developing the entire English curriculum for a high school in Sichuan, China. I taught there for a year, and when I began my job, there was no curriculum. I assessed the needs of the students, developed the curriculum for ESL and Literature, and set appropriate bench parts. The result was that all students saw a significant increase in their TOEFL scores. My desire is to bring the same effort and success to your students!

Essay writing expert

Are you a C student worried you won't get into your favorite college? Or an A+ student who is struggling to stand out among over-achievers? I can help you both! I was an English Major in college, and have extensive experience writing for large corporations, non-profit organizations and most recently, for high school students! My youngest children are twins who are currently college sophomores at two different universities. They applied to a combined total of 20 colleges/universities and both were accepted to their top choice. I was their college essay writing tutor and helped them complete essays for applications, auditions and scholarships. Both received merit awards exceeding $10,000 annually, so obviously their essays were well-written! I also assisted dozens of their friends with their college application essays as well. My twins are very different - my daughter graduated third in her class, held numerous leadership roles in clubs/organizations, was an NHS member, musical and theatrical performer and an exceptional student. My son was a B / C student, was an exceptional athlete and a great kid, who had to work much harder to achieve good grades. He is currently majoring in Mechanical Engineering and received two different merit awards, totaling $20,000 at the private university he attends. I believe strongly that "C" students have just as much to offer as "A" students, but your college application essay must convey who you are effectively, so that reviewers recognize your effort and contributions, and not just your GPA. High-achieving students such as my daughter face a different struggle - differentiating themselves from the 'pack of over-achievers' - and conveying what makes them unique and special. I have expertise in guiding both types of students, and believe the hardest part is getting started - making that list of activities, experiences and characteristics that we'll use to draft an amazing essay. So let's get started! I look forward to helping you!
