To reach a star you have to start by pointing at it.

Initially I entered college to learn Greek; however, I quickly learned that I did not know the grammar of my own language well enough to be able to understand the terminology that the professor was using to describe the structures of the Greek language. An infinitive, an imperative, a subjective, or a coordinating conjunctive, - what was he talking about? At first I could not do well in Greek because I did not know the “lingo.” So there I was in college learning English from scratch. When I did not do well in a course I took it again, then again, and sometimes even again. Yet the day came when I signed up for an “Advanced Writing Course 404-Something.” It was one of those courses that needed the professor’s approval. Well, he denied it. I went to see him about it. I was pretty upset about it, but his reason was not what I thought. He knew I was coming, and when I asked him why he would not let me in that class this is what he said, “Timothy, the next time I see your face I want to see it on the back of the cover of a book you wrote – go away and write.” That is exactly what I did although it took me a while to find a subject that I thought needed a book. I finished my first book several years ago. My GPA in graduate school in Ancient History was 3.9. I have written papers for 8 American colleges, and I have also written papers while at Oxford for a summer. I have received only one “B+” on a paper as a graduate student while all other papers were either an “A” or even a few “A+.” Today I work professionally as a writer. I cannot help everybody. There are those who are in the 11th grade and have to submit a college essay in a couple of weeks. I cannot help them. Learning how to write well takes time and hard work. Nevertheless, what do I have to offer? Well, one day I was writing a paper for a professor at a community college. Years later I was writing papers for a professor at Oxford.
