I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam as a sophomore in high school and have helped a few students improve their test scores and grades in class as well. If you're aiming to study in fields such as physics and engineering later on, having a comprehensive understanding of calculus is definitely very useful!
I usually start with a short assessment just to see what topics you're already comfortable with, whether from pre-calculus, algebra II, or your current calculus class. I'll also try to figure out how you learn best, whether it's visually with more colors, graphs, visual cues, as that's how I personally find it easier to take in the lesson material, or I might encourage you to jot down notes more because the physical act of writing helps cement the information.
Whereas previous math courses study the properties and relationships between numbers or shapes, calculus combines fundamental concepts to study how things change and how to optimize solutions. Calculus is fascinating in its practical applications in ordinary objects and situations and if your class happens not to cover those, I look forward to introducing them to you!
