News Director, Professional Writing Mentor

I have years of professional experience in teaching writing. I also have experience tutoring in journalism, resume writing, and English. In college, I was a tutor at our Learning Resource Center on campus. I focused on helping my peers in essay wring, grammar, and technical writing. I tutored college level students for two years while I attended Flagler College. It was also there that I earned my degree in Journalism and Media Production with a concentration in Journalism. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with the Distinguished Journalism Student award, presented to the top journalism student. I was also awarded the Faculty Department Award from Flagler College which is presented to graduating seniors who "have distinguished themselves through scholarly activity and academic achievement in their selected disciplines of study." Since graduating, I have volunteered tutoring grades k-12 for three years and have continued to help my college level peers in reviewing their work. I have helped recent graduates secure jobs by helping them compose resumes and proofreading their work. On top of tutoring, I have served as a News Director for two years, working as an editor-in-chief. I proofread articles daily and am constantly immersed in new content and trends. I am passionate about writing and I enjoy teaching because I have found that most students already have the answers, they just need help getting their thoughts organized on paper. I can provide the tools to help you reach your fullest potential. In our sessions, I will work with you and cater to your learning habits to give our time a meaningful and lasting learning experience.

Ava Brackett
Long Beach, CA

Recent graduate from CSULB BCCM with a Bachelor's in Music Composition.

I have been studying music for most of my life. I started by playing the violin in elementary school. Also, the school would introduce music to classrooms by teaching the classes songs and having the classes perform these songs. I enjoyed my experience with music in elementary school, and it encouraged me to keep playing violin in middle school and high school. I decided I wanted to pursue a career involving music. I decided to go to Long Beach City College to Major in music in the hopes of becoming a music therapist. I took theory, musicianship, history, performance classes and private lessons during my time at LBCC. I then transferred to California State University, Long Beach in 2021, and received a Bachelor's in Music Composition. At CSULB, I took advanced music theory and history courses, orchestration, media scoring, performance ensembles, and violin and composition lessons. As a General Music instructor, I want to explain the different instruments of the orchestra, instruments in pop music, brief music history, how to read music, and music cultures. I am also open to explaining and discussing anything music related my students want to discuss, and can hopefully answer any questions they have always been confused about. I want my students to have fun during class and appreciate music even more after coming out of my lessons. I can also tutor for any non-music major music class in high school or college.
