Good, Supportive Math Teacher, All Children Succeed

I am currently a classroom Mathematics Teacher at a Construction trade school. I am also in the process of enrolling in the Foundational Level Mathematics (FLM) Credential Program, a single subject Teaching Credential that allows me to teach up to Advanced Algebra into High School. For most of the State-Wide Unified School Districts it's acceptable to have the Credential OR be enrolled in a Credential Program. I have studied the subject matter material extensively, so l can sit for the FLM Examinations on short notice. I am a Mathematics subject matter expert and a Mechanical Engineer, so I bring strong Mathematics & Technical Education knowledge, for potential Engineers/Scientists, i.e. Pathways programs for Middle School. I have tutored hundreds of classroom hours with AP/Honors course tutoring over the past six years for our two children, Christina and Christopher Jr. They have been successful with all their AP/Honors level course work in their respective High Schools, as they pursue College at this time. My Teaching and Engineering Professions I took after my Mother (Edna Wade) who was a principal and long-time teacher at Queen of All Saints Parish in Concord, Ca. I have her passion and love for teaching and student growth. I was born in San Francisco and grew up in Concord, Ca. I attended Catholic K-12 schools and graduated with Academic Honors at the prestigious De La Salle Catholic High School in Concord. As a Mechanical Engineering major, I then endured through Diablo Valley J.C. in Pleasant Hill, Ca., taking and getting an A-grade in every Mathematics course that DVC offered. After completing all the lower division Mathematics, Chemistry and College Physics at DVC, I transferred to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska for my Mechanical Engineering major and degree. After graduation I worked with a local Engineering firm in the day time and worked toward a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management by attending evening classes.

David Newman
Berkeley, CA

UC Berkeley graduate tutor (test prep, writing, history, and more)

I graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a BA in history. For the major, I took classes from some of the best professors in the country and received straight A's. Furthermore, the major required me to complete a 50-page thesis totally original to the historical literature. Thus I have countless hours of experience completing archival research and I fully understand how to compose a fully cited research essay. I can help students craft a strong thesis statement and create a compelling essay that fully proves their argument at a collegiate level. Moreover, not only do I understand the bones of a good history essay but I am skilled at teaching students what I know. By tutoring a wide variety of subjects, grades, and skill levels for TutorMe these last couple of years I’ve gained an extremely versatile skill set that will enable me to meet the challenges of whomever I’m lucky enough to assist. This versatility was crucial for succeeding at TutorMe not only due to the diversity of clients but also due to the structure of the site. Regularly scheduled lessons with students whom I developed delightful relationships with have been an essential part of my job. However, of the over 200 students I’ve tutored, the majority were random students whom I was assigned to assist with homework over the course of an hour-long session. As a result, I’ve been able to thrive as an educator because I have grown skilled at calmly assessing the angles to new problems and then compassionately breaking them down to students whom I had no previous rapport with. Furthermore, because TutorMe is an online tutoring platform, I developed a mastery of establishing clarity and an authoritative presence virtually. Thus, I can convey subtle ideas through interactive whiteboards and textual communication while maintaining an endearing patience.

Grace Lee
Berkeley, CA

Recent UC Berkeley Graduate, English Tutor

I have fostered my lifelong passion for and knowledge of the English language and Anglophone literature at the University of California, Berkeley. After writing numerous essays and analyzing various literary works, I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a 3.98 GPA. Aside from my major-related coursework, I edited poetry as an associate editor for the Berkeley Poetry Review and the student-run journal, To An Unknown God. I have further applied my expertise in the subject of English by tutoring different age groups of diverse backgrounds. With the company Ringle Inc., I taught English to non-native speakers—from elementary-school students to those in college and even working professionals—according to their individual skill levels and learning styles. At the YMCA in Downtown Berkeley, I helped high schoolers write, revise, and edit their personal statements (known as "personal insight questions") for admissions to campuses in the University of California university system. By studying the written word, people learn how to express themselves more accurately, comprehensibly, and richly. This skill can build their confidence and sense of power, as they come to understand better themselves and others in the medium of language. I want to help students experience such meaning and significance in the works they read and the writing they produce, as I have, in my own work involving the English language.
