I recently graduated from Manhattanville College with a BA in Communications and... Media and a minor in Film. Starting my sophomore year in 2020, I began an internship with the writing center on campus and was learning tutoring pedagogy so that I could work in the writing center as a tutor myself. That next semester, I held a paid position as a Peer Writing Tutor until my graduation this May (2023). Over my time as a tutor, I assisted students generally in a virtual one-on-one environment. These students were mostly early undergrads, but I received a number of graduate students to tutor as well. I also occasionally would assist students asynchronously, providing them with email feedback after editing and commenting inside the document. The experience I had as a tutor was flexible and allowed me to work with the students solely with the goal of helping them improve their understanding of the material. It was invaluable to me in the development of my own learning as well! I also volunteered at a number of different educational programs across Westchester, NY as a tutor during my time in college. These students were anywhere from ages elementary to high school to college. Some workshops were also held for special needs students in particular. These were wider classroom experiences, with the number of students being around 15-20. These experiences were more about managing the class and students to understand one lesson rather than working to enhance one student's learning.read more
