Hey, how's it going? I'm Steve, a musician based in Los Angeles, CA. I am a drummer, guitarist, amateur bassist and amateur recording engineer/live sound technician, as well as 3D animator. I was p... rimarily self-taught at drums for at least 2 years when I was 16 before I started taking drum lessons. Eventually, got out to LA and attended Musicians Institute to get an associates in guitar and a certificate in drums, due to being an 'independent student' at the time I was close to finishing and didn't qualify for more money. During that time, I studied various styles of music, including rock, metal, funk, jazz, some latin, odd meter, reading chord charts, etc, and playing with some incredible musicians. I studied jazz under Chuck Flores of Miles Davis fame and Carl Schoeder, as well as playing metal and rock with the supervision of Jeff Bowders. I also played a benefit show for pitbulls with a Mr. Ken Steiger at The Rainbow Bar and Grill, and you might have seen me on the Adult Swim show 'Check it Out with Dr. Steve Brule' on an episode called 'Music' where John C Reilley becomes a 'roagie' to carry gear for a band. I am currently working with a band called Living Darkness by recording the drums for their newest album (soon to be posted). My teaching is based on what I wish my teacher helped me with before I got to California, by analyzing my playing from the past and thinking about how could I improve it if I could talk to my younger self. Lessons will be mainly focused on getting techniques down for rudiments, then applying those rudiments to the kit as a practical use, as well as dynamics, tempos, odd meter (when applicable) and the most important, counting to four and why.
