About
Hi, I'm Staci! I have been tutoring friends and classmates since elementary school. Even in my day-to-day job newer scientists come to me for help. Most recently, a new hire explained that he learned ... from me best because I help to make the subject matter applicable and relatable. It makes it easier for him to remember.
I have a BS and MS from Kansas State University in Food Science and a PhD in Animal Science from Auburn University. While completing my masters and PhD I taught several classes. I even earned a Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching. I've recently starting tutoring 2 students in reading and have loved watching their language and reading comprehension improve.
Every student is different. It is important to me to best understand how an individual learns so that I can create lessons and enrichment activities that will be most beneficial. What works for one student may not work for another. It's also critical to be able to quickly pivot with lesson plans when a student isn't 'getting it'.
I have a full-time 8am-5pm job and with that I am sometimes required to travel. I understand that schedules are important -- especially to families with kiddos in many different activities; however, I have at LEAST two weeks prior notice before all travel and can work with parents (and students) to find 'replacement times'. I see myself being best able to work with individuals as they prepare for a test and/or need just a little help catching up, but not intense long-term tutoring.read more
