Hi folks ! I am Shirso and I am a PhD student based in Oregon. I had an on-off relationship with chess back in high school but rekindled my passion for the game during the desolation and gloominess of... the pandemic. I played a ton of online chess to pass the time and gradually improved to an advanced level where now I tend to consistently get the better of even titled players ! Audacious as it might sound given my age, I want to pursue a goal of becoming a GM and playing in the Candidates someday to challenge Magnus Carlsen himself for the crown ! I am very passionate about passing on my love for the game to beginners and nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing that ethereal light on the face when they figure out a knight fork for themselves for the first time :) When it comes to tutoring, I like to think of myself as a friendly guide. I believe in elucidating the basics, making the subject matter engaging and then letting the students explore the material with their own unique perspective, with me only there to occasionally nudge them in the right direction.
