When I was in Middle School, I started out not being able to understand math. I was never being able to grasp the subject and it was always a struggle for me. Then I got a teacher in 8th grade who bel... ieved that I could learn and taught me how to understand the topic. From that moment on I have loved math. After learning how to understand math, I finally learned how much fun it was and how accomplished you feel after completing the problem. I became obsessed with the feeling of achieving a problem I could not get for hours. I was pushed by my math teachers from Middle School to High School and I am so thankful for those teachers because they created my love for math by teaching me the right ways to learn while also being my mentors. I started growing relationships with my math teachers because of how welcoming they made me feel by asking questions and encouraging learning. I now love math and have been the student all the other students come to help figure out a problem. I have been so thankful to have those math teachers that encouraged me and were mentors to me, and I am excited to be able to do what they did for me for another student. Now that I am in college, I feel like it is the best time to become a mentor for students younger than me and create that same love for learning that I have.read more

Hi! My name is Shelby Holt. I am an Interior Architecture student at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee but I grew up in a small town in Lavale, Maryland. As a teenager, I always lo... ved to draw and be with my friends. I grew up around the same people from Middle School and even Elementary School. I have always loved animals and drawing, and as I grew up I started to grow a fascination in the inside of houses, I have HGTV to thank for that. In High School, I joined the art club at my school and ended up becoming the President of the club my senior year. I have always been a friendly and welcoming person that is welcome to meeting and talking to new people. As I got into college and moved away from my home town friends and family, I had to branch out and meet new people and new friends. I had to make a new path for myself. I started to focus on myself, my school work, and my relationship with God. I now have a 6 month old puppy, studying for my dream job, while growing closer with God, and trying to help other people.read more
