Hi, I'm Christina. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I love to explore the world around me. I am a foodie, hiker, paddleboarder, writer and admirer of nature. I enjoy a good book and a strong cup ... of coffee. As a child I had some challenges accessing education which made reading and math difficult. I struggled and gave up on my education at an early age. I didn't come back to education until I was older which made me a better student. As a tutor I understand the challenges students face and like to help them find confidence to break things down so they are less daunting. My approach is to get students to trust the process. I am vulnerable with my students and let them know I struggled and that usually gets them to open up and let me help them quicker. Tutoring is a lot like mentoring we can tackle big scary stuff together and feel supported. I like to also make sure parents understand ways they can support their students. I have worked with students from all backgrounds and find that they just want to have fun which I can relate to so I try to integrate game like activities into lessons. For instance I give students a problem and I try to have them beat me in solving the problem faster or I make mistakes and urge the students to find them. I try to put the thinking on the student and not do all the work for them. The reward of figuring out a problem is much sweeter when you can do it on your own.read more
