Hi everyone.

0:04

My name is Tina. Hi.

0:06

I am currently a PhD student at the

0:10

University of Nevada Reno.

0:11

I'm working on my doctorate in STEM education.

0:14

I have a bachelor's degree in biology

0:18

with a minor in both chemistry and math.

0:21

Um, I also have my master's degree in environmental

0:25

toxicology with an emphasis on bacteria phage research.

0:29

So if you wanna know about bacteria phage,

0:32

I can talk about it forever.

0:34

I teach general biology

0:37

and microbiology at Truck Meadows Community College,

0:40

and I work part-time as an epidemiologist

0:44

for Sierra County Public Health Department.

0:46

And now I'm also a lesson pal tutor.

0:49

I tutor primarily biology and math through algebra.

0:53

Um, but I can also tutor chemistry

0:56

and really basically just science in general.

0:59

I really love science and math

1:03

and teaching it to others, mainly

1:05

because I love when students learn new things,

1:07

that they are able to relate to the real lives

1:10

and to the real world.

1:13

I like to bring in activities to incorporate

1:17

as much hands-on learning as possible into my classroom

1:20

because I really believe

1:23

that active learning makes difficult concepts more enjoyable

1:26

and easier to learn and remember, and understand.

1:30

I view my classroom as a community of learners, all striving

1:35

to improve themselves.

1:36

My main goals are for my students to feel comfortable

1:40

and like they have a safe place

1:42

and a safe space to be vulnerable

1:46

and to ask questions, um,

1:49

because that's where the learning happens.

1:51

I welcome and encourage my students to ask questions,

1:55

to be inquisitive, to think outside the box,

1:59

and, um, innovate and collaborate with others

2:03

because that is the hallmark of science.

2:05

In my free time, I enjoy roller skating and hiking

2:10

and biking and kayaking when the weather's warm, going

2:15

to the lake or the coast.

2:16

I have been married for 23 years. I am a dog mom.

2:22

I have Abel Mastiff

2:23

and an English mastiff, so really large dogs.

2:26

Um, and I'm a very proud aunt to two wonderful nephews,

2:31

one just turned 18, and the other's 13.

2:34

I enjoy reading, doing crafts,

2:38

and spending time with my family,

2:41

and I hope to see you all soon.
