I have recently graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelors of science in neurobiology, physiology and behavior. One of the last courses I took during my time was the gross hum... an anatomy lecture and associated human anatomy cadaver lab. These courses were modeled after the anatomy courses offered at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, and the professors of the School of Medicine also instructed the undergraduate course that I took. While in high school, I also studied human anatomy which gave me the basic knowledge and tools to succeed at the college level. When learning anatomy, it is important to understand the roots, prefixes, and suffixes of the terminology but it is also important to understand the clinical correlates associated with each region of the body; therefore, the information from the course can be utilized in real life. This transforms anatomy from a curriculum that is simply memorized to one that can be understood and applied in different scenarios. I have learned anatomy both in systemic and regional approaches. Depending on the student's preferences and learning style, lessons will be modified to fit their needs. Hello everyone! My name is Paola. I am latina and a first-generation student. I have recently graduated from the University of California, Davis with a bachelors of science in neurobiology, physiology... and behavior with a minor in Spanish. During my last year, I was given the opportunity to take two introductory classes on education and teaching for the sciences and the Spanish language to non-native speakers. I obtained an abundance of tools for creating lesson plans, strategies for engaged learning, and how to create an inclusive environment for all students. I find my tutoring sessions are predominantly student-led. I teach by asking questions, providing practice problems, and encouraging students that their ability to master a subject can be developed little by little. I hope that through this method, students are able to understand the material and have the confidence to succeed in their classes and my lessons should cease to be needed. I want to create an inclusive and positive learning community and I am LGBTQIA friendly!
