For the past seven years I have been studying and pursuing a future career involving literature, specifically classical works. Four of these years were during my time in high school where I studied li... terary works from Ancient Greece and Rome, Medieval works, Shakespeare, modern classics and many other forms of literature. I am about to start my senior year as a college student pursing a degree in English, concentrating on British and American Literature with a minor in History. The past year I have worked as a tutor for freshman English classes and for a Phonics and Phonology course at my university. I enjoy helping others understand the importance of literature and the insight it brings to the culture and history period works were written in. Having struggled with severe dyslexia throughout my entire academic career I understand any issues a student may have with getting through material. I would be most comfortable tutoring higher elementary to early high school students as my familiarity with the works often taught in those grades are areas I have the most understanding of. I am willing to tutor higher grade levels but only in specific areas of literature. These would be later American works, mythology and Shakespearean. read more

Hello! My name is Eleanor, I'm an Iowa native with a love for literature! Growing up I struggled with dyslexia which made reading harder for me, but I loved stories so when I was finally able to read ... and learn how to overcome my dyslexia I had a deep appreciation for books and the stories they tell. When it comes to teaching others about literature, I don't want to just drill information into a student's head. Rather I want to share what I know and help them come to their own understanding of the work. I believe that more knowledge is obtained from discussions then studying for a test. I never want to force a student to learn material, I want them to fall in love with it and want to learn more. Currently I am an undergrad student starting my senior year studying for a degree in English, concentrating in British and American literature. After I finish my undergrad I plan to attend law school or get my masters in literature.read more
