Hello! My name is Katie and my passion is helping people succeed, whatever that means to them--I am just genuinely excited to meet and help new students. I have been a percussionist for 11 years, am a... senior at Drake University studying Music Education and Percussion Performance, and plan to audition for percussion graduate programs next year. Though I'm still in college, I have been teaching for 3 years: private lessons, high school drumline and percussion ensemble, and elementary school bucket drumming. I also perform professionally in the Des Moines area. My favorite part of percussion is the community: the ensembles I get to be a part of or teach. At Drake, I play in the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Orchestra, marching band, Bulldog Brass (pep band), and percussion ensemble. I also play in a community band and enjoy playing piano, baritone, ukulele, and drumset in my "free time". A couple of brags so you know I know my stuff: I won best percussion solo: high school division in the state of Arizona, won a spot in the Drake Honors Recital, and have a 3.8 GPA. However, I am most proud of my teaching and my students' success (all of my students won superior in their most recent solo and ensemble contest!).
