Hi, I'm Julie. I have been playing piano since I was 4 years old and started teaching 15 years ago while I was earning my BA in music. Once I started teaching, I was hooked, and have been teaching pia... no ever since! I see playing music as requiring both knowledge and skill and I make sure that my students get both. We work on reading music, how to translate what is on the page to playing the songs. We work on how to play the notes with different techniques to provide variety, expression, and musicality. All this is in a relaxed environment that gives a safe place to experiment, try new things, make mistakes, and learn how to correct those mistakes. I make sure my students know what they need to do when they practice and have a solid handle on the skills they will continue to develop during the week.read more
