Under Dr. Richard Blair's mentorship, I researched the catalytic properties of etched aluminum diboride. I constantly interact with a plug-flow as well as a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC-MS... ) and sometimes with thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) instruments. Moreover, I have also done some work in gloveboxes. Besides my research experience, I have served as a paid chemistry tutor in the past for the prestigious EXCEL program at UCF. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in the Searles research group led by Dr. Keith Searles. In the Searles group, I am researching the preparation of a new novel support for heterogeneous reactions. I have gained more experience using gloveboxes as well as running synthetic procedures where the materials are air- and moisture-sensitive. This is done outside the gloveboxes by using a Schlenk line. Students should choose me as their chemistry tutor because I am passionate about science, in particular chemistry! Good day! My name is Jose Carlos Berger Perez. I am a current Ph.D. student at the University of Florida. As a researcher, student, and denizen of Earth, my dream is to apply the knowledge I learn alo... ng my journey for the establishment of sustainable processes; that is, my dream is to conserve Earth's biodiversity. After all, taking care of Earth is taking care of one another. In the words of Paulo Coelho, "It is we who nourish the Soul of the world, and the world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse." I was born in Nicaragua, the land of lakes and volcanoes. Under the guidance of strong women, such as my grandmother who raised me, I was able to acquire the core values that to this day I still carry with me. My grandmother always taught me that education is something that one can take away from you; please think about that. As result, I want to learn as much as I can about everything, alas I am biased towards the sciences, in particular the chemical sciences. Besides my passion for science, I enjoy playing video games, watching cartoons (particularly anime), watching extraordinary series (e.g., Star Wars and Supernatural), playing the drums, growing plants (gardening), using my body as a canvas for expressive reasons, listening to music (such as rock and indie), learning about my surroundings, and developing my relationship with the Creator as well as those around me, among other activities. That said, my partner and I have actually just finished playing all of the Halo games except for Halo Infinite (waiting for the co-op update); we started this January!
