English has always been my favorite subject back in grade school and high school. I took up Mass Communication back in the University and most of my majors are English and English Grammar. I am a vora... cious reader too! From magazines to world myths, news, and neurosciences, I stretch my perceived limits and comprehension on English language. Fast forward, I became a news and lifestyle journalist for daily broadsheets for about 10 years. But my journey with English didn't end there. Over time, I found myself yearning to teach children and so I did! I went on to teach grade schoolers English, including spelling, reading proficiency, and grow their love for this language for seven years (and counting) Being an English language learner myself, I understand the challenges and difficulties that a learner encounters in this journey. Hi! I'm Joan! I'm from Davao City, Philippines. I have been learning about the English language since I was in third grade. I would pick up any English book available and would lock myself in the room... until I'm done reading. I would learn about a word but it would take me time to know how to actually pronounce it. That experience grew in me and it translated into me yearning to immerse myself deeper into the language. English is my second language but even in my own journal, I write it in English. It's because I feel that I am more concise in my thought expression when I write things in English. Although I must say that my mother tongue has a different quality of expression. My goal as a tutor is to help learners grow more confident in using the English language. They say that you understand a language best when you're able to use it often.
