About
I grew up in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York.
As a student, I always enjoyed r... eading, and read many of the classics while still in junior high school. In high school, I took electives in creative writing and literature and also worked on the school year book, preparing copy and contributing poetry. In college, while majoring in dance, I also took a second major in Russian Language and Literature, graduating with honors in Russian Language and Literature, Summa Cum Laude. My interest in world languages deepened my appreciation and understanding of the English language.
After graduating, I worked as a dancer, teacher and choreographer, eventually moving to Bloomfield, New Jersey where I received my certification as a dance teacher in the New Jersey public schools.
For the last 5 years I have tutored students in English Language Arts and math, in both individual and group settings. Previous to tutoring, I worked as a substitute in the New Jersey public schools, and as a dance teacher in a middle school exploratory arts program.
I have tutored for Huntington Learning Center teaching reading and math, and presently work as a tutor with Tutor Me Education, LA, teaching reading, grades K-12, and math, grades K-6, and with Teach & Tutor (a/k/a Tutor Gigs), tutoring students in English Language Arts, grades K-12, and math, grades K-5. When I worked at Huntington Learning Center, I also taught college exam prep for the English sections of the SAT, ACT, and PSAT.
I have always loved teaching. Nothing makes me happier than to see a student make the connection in a subject, concept or topic that they have been struggling with.
I am very patient and am able to provide clarity for concepts and topics that many students find confusing. In my tutoring sessions I strive to create a warm and friendly environment and believe that all students can learn when given the right tools.
When I am not tutoring, I enjoy Tai Chi, folk dancing and swimming.read more
