I have always excelled in reading since a young age. I find that interactive work and encouragement are the most affective ways to help a child with reading. I come from a theater background (that is ... what my degree is in). I spent many summers helping students and children in our theater camps learn how to break down and read scripts (marking beats, understanding what a word means in order to deliver it correctly). In college we often spent multiple class periods just breaking down the script before we were even allowed to put the scene on it's feet. I also had a class called "play analysis" that was dedicated entirely to reading and understanding scripts. I studied Shakespearean text for a summer in London, England. I often find that teaching reading, in a way, is similar to teaching acting. Confidence is key! Instilling confidence in your child with their reading and overall academic career is my number one goal. read more
