About
Hey there! I am Caleb P. Crandall and I was born in Asheville North Carolina. I am a graduate of UNCA where I got my degree in History, which was a dream come true. History has always been my passion,... even from an early age. My friends and peers would often say that I would become a historian or else a history teacher.
My love of history is partly due to my family because us Crandalls are very big into family history. This helped to foster my love of the subject at large. I love to research, (perhaps too much as my mentor told me I was the only person she had to tell to not research so much), and have read quite a lot of historical literature. Just ask me who Harriet Wilson is and I could talk for hours.
Other than devouring history books I also love to read novels (my favorite book is Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut), write (mostly poetry but some short stories as well), watch movies (I especially love the old black and white Universal monster flicks), and listen to music (I love love love David Bowie).
I want the students I teach to act as critical thinkers that can analyze and interpret the past in ways that can (hopefully) better shape the future. That I part of why I love Black American history in particular because it has been routinely ignored and it holds many important lessons about today's world. My hope is that students that I tutor would be able to read, write, and think for themselves by using evidence from primary and secondary sources.
Hope to see you soon!
