I have extensive taught general Physics to students with no background in Mathematics using lucid demonstrations of simple concepts. Physics is an experimental science. A set of experiments to be fol... lowed just after the concepts learned in theory in a proper pedagogical order is mandatory for the course curriculum development. I try to create innovative and simple projects for understanding Physics without the use of very expensive equipment. For example, I assigned a project to my students to measure the pitch (spacing) of the data tracks on CD’s, using the diffraction pattern displayed by the CD. They were advised to use a monochromatic source of light – a laser pointer on the CD. So, it is not always essential to have extremely expensive equipment like a grating, a spectrometer etc. to understand simple concepts in physics. I also give daily life examples of how interference causes colors in thin films, wings of butterfly etc. Experimentation could also be based on just observing the physical world around you and I take up this as a challenge to make my students observe things and think about the physics behind it. Thus, experimentation based on observation is a great tool for teaching physics. I have Bachelors in Education from a reputed University in Calcutta, India which gives me specialized pedagogical training for this type of course curriculum. I had 12 years of teaching experience in this field in India and further enhanced my skill in the US while woking as a TA during my PhD from University of Kentucky. Hi! I am Nandita. I live in Detroit and am very passionate about teaching. Ever since middle school I used to mentor my classmates and my sisters friends. I loved teaching Math as kid but in high scho... ol I realized I should teach Physics since the true application of Math in the real world lies in Physics. As thought the laws of nature follow mathematical patterns and are thus best understood using math. I never had good Physics and Math teachers and am almost a self learner. I also had a feeling that my teachers made Physics and Math very complicated. On the contrary I always felt Math was meant to make life simpler and easier by breaking down a large problem into simpler parts and quantifying the difficult concepts. I think better teachers not just make better students but a better world - and this world need better Physics teachers. To fulfill this need I did my PhD in Physics from the University of Kentucky after MS (Physics) and post-graduate education training from India. I have a lot teaching experience in a class room setting and tutoring and over my course of experience I have realized that tutoring is more enjoyable than teaching large groups of students in a class.
