Hi, my name is Lana

0:03

and I'm a math tutor here at Lesson Pal.

0:06

If you look at my biography, you'll see

0:09

that I have a doctorate in electrical engineering decades

0:11

of consulting, um, experience in my research company.

0:15

So what am I doing here? And the reasons very simple.

0:19

I love working with kids and I love, um, helping

0:23

and teaching people of all ages.

0:25

I've been like this ever since I can remember.

0:28

Um, up until I was a TA in college.

0:32

And then later I became a mom to two boys.

0:36

And some of my fondest memories aren't professional,

0:40

but it's being with my kids, hanging out with them,

0:43

teaching them things and helping them with their homework,

0:46

including math.

0:48

And I help them from the beginning.

0:50

Up until they finished

0:52

and passed their Calculus BC exams,

0:54

I would help their friends and I volunteered at the school.

0:58

But when they graduated, that part

1:01

of my life unfortunately ended and I really missed it.

1:04

So I started doing volunteer work, like science outreach,

1:07

reading partners and the tech interactive.

1:10

And I also became a math tutor.

1:12

I now have over six years of

1:15

tutoring math from kindergarten up

1:18

until partial differential equations.

1:20

And I love it all and I do it all.

1:22

My basic philosophy when I teach is not

1:26

to lecture the kids and the students.

1:27

That's the teacher's job.

1:29

I wanna work one-on-one with them

1:31

and have them do all the work.

1:33

And I check them

1:35

and I ask them why something is,

1:37

why they're doing something,

1:38

why they made certain conclusions,

1:40

and just give them a little nudge when they need it.

1:43

But my main thing is I want them to understand,

1:46

understand the math.

1:47

Once they do, we practice, practice, practice.

1:50

'cause that's the best way to master math.

1:52

And once you do that, then it's gonna help you in all kinds

1:57

of other subjects, engineering, all the sciences, any career

2:01

that you choose in a STEM field.

2:02

So I invite you to, um, book a trial lesson

2:07

and I hope to see you here.

2:09

Bye.
