About
Hello! I'm Kaitlyn, I am a freshman at NYU where I am majoring in international environmental policy. Originally I am from the California Bay Area which, as any local could tell you, can be very acade... mically challenging. Growing up in the Bay I always loved learning new things but often found myself discouraged by the rigorous classes. However, throughout my high school years I learned to use internal motivation techniques to keep myself engaged in classes no matter how difficult. Since then I've been a self-advocate for my education which has helped me learn in the most efficient ways available. When tutoring I aim to help students find new perspectives on content that spark that internal motivation. From observing my parents (one is a teacher and the other a project manager) I know that it is important to be patient with people as everyone learns at their own pace. I feel that in private tutoring especially it's important for the student to feel completely secure in their learning style and resulting knowledge. I hope for students to come out of a session being able to identify exactly what they learned, maybe what they didn't learn, and how they learned it.
I have always been a science person and particularly well versed in environmental science, but I am also a skilled writer. I am capable in assisting in grammar, various essay formats, and literature analysis. While I am usually helping students in a range of subjects, I feel most comfortable in science in which I would be able to provide additional lessons.
