Chieko Shinoda
Los Angeles, CA

Hello! Kon ni chi wa!

Nice to meet you, my name is Chieko. I am currently studying English in the US. I have 5 years of experience as a Japanese teacher. After graduating from university, I worked for an IT company in Tokyo for over 10 years before coming to the US. During that time, I was in charge of interviews in the HR department, so I can teach you everything from mock interview practice to honorific language and business etiquette. My teaching style is to have you relax and take my classes. Because I believe that you cannot show your true potential unless you are relaxed. This class is all for you, so don't be afraid to fail or make mistakes. Let's have a fun class.

Akira Komatsu
Los Angeles, CA

Japanese Language Instructor

(Please message me inquiring about online lessons only.) Thank you very much for your interest in my Japanese language lessons. I was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan, living in Los Angeles since 2017, and graduated from the literature department of Waseda University. I have taught for more than four years and have about 3000 hours of teaching experience. I have taught students from 6 years old to over 60 in the US or Canada from beginner to advanced. I have a good time with every student through classes and I also have learned a lot from students. I listen to you as carefully as possible to make the lesson meaningful. I try to listen and understand what my student is interested in and which direction she/he wants to go. I always try to make my lessons fun and informative at the same time. There are some students with autism or ADHD, I do my best for them though I am not a specialist in that field. I enjoy meeting new people and love to talk about Japanese culture, especially movies (Ghibli!), TV shows (Shogun!), music (City Pop!), food (Ramen!) and tourism (I'm from Tokyo!). There are some students from the entertainment industry as actors, band members of world-famous top 40 artists, and film composers who have a business relationship with companies in Japan. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. Message me anytime. I offer 20 min sample FREE lesson via Zoom. I am sure that the lessons are going to be fun! I use GENKI as a textbook. Lessons are online only.

Makiko Kato
Nagoya, 愛知県 日本

Qualified Native Japanese Teacher with 10 year's successful teaching experience and Master's degree

I hold an Educational degree from Nagoya University and a Master's in Translation from Monash University in Australia. For nine years, I successfully worked as a freelance translator. Later, I transitioned to teaching Japanese to English-speaking expats and their spouses for seven years. When the pandemic hit, I effortlessly adapted to online-based teaching and have since taught numerous students across the globe. My students range from adults, university students, high schoolers, to middle schoolers. I've had the pleasure of assisting numerous university students with their assignments, as well as preparing them for job interviews and speeches at an international student conference. I'm proud to say that most of these students have even passed the JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) at levels N5, N4, and N3. Meeting new people and teaching them is something that I truly enjoy. Creating a fun and positive atmosphere during my lessons is always my goal. I strive to build long-lasting relationships with my students, both as their teacher and as a friend. Even after they return to their home country, we stay connected through social media and continue to exchange messages with each other. As an online tutor, I assist numerous students who are fond of Japanese culture, including anime, movies, and music and aspire to visit Japan someday. Although mastering the Japanese language can be challenging, I aid them in speaking fluently, recognizing Kanji, Hiragana, and Katakana characters, enhancing their reading skills, and nurturing their passion for Japanese culture for a lifetime.
