I taught math for the first time in 2002, when I helped some assistants at the lab where I worked through Trigonometry as adult learners. I've continued to teach math to students of all ages, from Pre... K through Precalculus and College Algebra/Trigonometry, over the last 20 years. I taught several semesters at the local community college during graduate school. When I became a mother, I decided to leave my Engineering career and become a stay-at-home, homeschool mom. That led me to teach at co-ops and hybrid schools for the last decade, including as a 1-1 tutor, where I have had the opportunity to teach students from their very earliest years all the way through Pre-calculus. One of my students is now in her final year earning an engineering degree, and has called me on occasion through college for some math help! I love to teach math, and although I don't have a special ed degree, I do have experience with learning difficulties, including ADHD and dyslexia, both with my own children and others. Hi! I'm Hannah and I live in a small, rural town in Nebraska. I have 8 children and I homeschool them all! I have a BS in Nuclear Engineering and a MS in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics an... d an MS in Materials Science. I quit a career in engineering to stay home with my children, and I have loved that decision. I put my enthusiasm for math and science into the co-ops, hybrid schools, and 1-1 tutoring that has come along during our homeschooling journey. We love to garden, fish, spend time outdoors, and play baseball! I am also a musician and have taken every opportunity I can to play the piano and sing. I believe that everyone can learn with a little patience and perseverance. My approach has been shaped by my experiences with my children. I have several children with ADHD and two with dyslexia. That experience has taught me to be patient, try different approaches, and find accommodations so that learning can continue while I remediate the struggling areas. I spend time finding what works for an individual student. For example, some students need real-world examples for the topics to make sense, and others need a logical step-by step break-down of a topic. Some students need a big picture of where things are going before they start, and others need help gathering information. My goal is to work with the kind of learner a student is and find the approach that helps them to succeed.read more
