Since an early age, I have understood that language and literature are the foundation that understanding is built upon. I grew up actively involved in Musical Theatre at school as well as at extra-cur... ricular institutions. I earned multiple awards at Florida State Thespians and county wide Drama Forensics. My expertise in Theatre transformed into a love of literature, as I would break down scripts to understand them as writing brought to life by characters on a stage. I directed multiple successful theatrical productions, such as “Into the Woods” by Stephen Sondheim and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by William Finn. I have worked with a vast range of age groups, from middle school to college age. These productions emerged spectacularly onto the stage, with each actor comprehending their motivations through indirect and direct characterization provided in the script. I went on to graduate from USF, workshopping and revising my own works of fiction under the guidance and tutelage of accomplished, published authors and poets. I earned a B.A. in Creative Writing, and began my education career at Durant High School. During the two school years I spent at Durant, I worked with a wide range of students to help hone their craft and learn to write in an engaging and informative manner. A number of these students went on to request Letters of Recommendation from me for their future pursuit of higher education. Hi! My name is Elijah, but I usually go by Eli. I grew up actively involved and deeply enamored with the performing arts. I participated in theatre from elementary school to my college years, with the... roles of the Baker in “Into the Woods” and Cliff in “Cabaret” standing out fondly in my memory. I have participated in theatre as both actor and director, and it made for a period of time I am quite proud of looking back on. What I love more than anything is a good story, whether it’s told on a screen or on a page. However, my favorite way to enjoy a story has always been through video games. Being able to live through a story as the protagonist, instead of a mere spectator, has been my hobby of choice since I was small enough to sit in my parent’s lap as they showed me how to use a controller for the very first time. It was this love of fiction that inspired me to begin my career in education. The opportunity to pass on my knowledge of storytelling is, to me, a great honor and well worth my time. My tutoring philosophy is reflected by my passion for fiction: that one must learn the rules before they can break them. In order to use language to create quality writing of your own, you must first pursue a masterful comprehension of literary composition.
