About
Hi! I'm Dan! I've been practicing data science for 6 years and absolutely love it. Whether you are a total beginner or have some experience in the field, I can help take you to the next level. When it... comes to tutoring, I strongly adhere to 3 main philosophies:
1. The language I use should be as simple as possible. The academic world is filled with unnecessarily complex jargon, and I want there to be as few barriers as possible between a student and true understanding of a concept. This also means my lessons tend to skew toward using metaphors and conceptual visualizations rather than mathematical equations.
2. Lessons should be customized to each student. Everybody has different skill levels and different interests, and I find cookie-cutter lessons tend to fall short in some way or another.
3. The goal of my sessions is to teach you, not test you. I am amazed at how often students will be hesitant to ask me to repeat something, out of fear they will somehow offend me. Even if you simply zoned out for a few seconds and missed something, I will always encourage you to ask me to backtrack. Furthermore, I will always encourage feedback if something isn't working so I can change course to best suit you.
There are a ton of fascinating topics in the field of data science, from how to teach computers to understand text like a person, to how to visualize data that has more dimensions than can reasonably fit on a graph. I love seeing the "eureka" feeling when a student grasps a new concept, and hope I can help you learn or build something cool!read more
