Joseph HuntTucson, AZCNC machinist, CAD designer, works for Defense Industry.
Hello, my name is Joseph Hunt and I am interested in tutoring Solidworks.
I have a AS degree in mechanical CAD (computer aided design) from Pima Community College where we used Solidworks to teach the many different concepts such as modeling, 2d & 3d sketching, assemblies, drawings, weldments, sheetmetal, and molds. My final class at pima which was also my hardest class I've taken was a class entirely devoted to inventing a product around the idea that it would solve a real life problem. My invention was a garbage hauler, which helped elderly people pull a large garbage can up hills or on any terrain to its destination using a motor in the front wheel. I ended up passing the class and the teacher who himself was an engineer for Raytheon said he liked the idea and it had a lot of market potential.
I also worked for a company called Everbrite. This is where I became more adept at using Solidworks on a daily basis. I would create models and form an assembly and then export the finished files as DXF files so that production could fabricate them. I also put together a packet of drawings so that production could take my creations from start to finish using a CNC table, water jet, welding, and other operations to ensure a finished product.
My second job in CAD was for a large aerospace machine shop that used a different CAD software called CREO, which is like Solidworks bigger sister. Here at this job I was much more a drafter and focused more on translating engineering amendments to models and changing drawing to reflect those changes. Here I still was able to learn a lot about GD&T which is something used often on Solidwork drawings that are like machinist instructions in a symbol format.
