I learned this through my work as the Student Body President at Converse University for the 2021-2022 school year. I've taught Introduction to Speech and Public Speaking at Tarrant County College since late 2019, after receiving my MA in Communication with a 4.0 GPA from Eastern Michigan University. Prior to grad school, I was an assistant debate coach and instructional assistant in for the Communications Lab on campus. During that time, our competitive speech team qualified multiple students for the Phi Rho Pi national speech tournament both years I was an active assistant coach. And before that, I competed in debate and individual speaking events in High School and as an undergrad. I am successful at getting students to see where there own communication comes from and what practices they can use to communicate the best way that they can. I also have a tool no one else has, an application developed from an in-class activity that I call 90 Seconds to Make a Point. It is a highly customizable, random topic and audience type generator. I can input topics specific to a student's needs. This allows a student to not only practice their speaking, but also their critical thinking with relevance to any classroom topic.
