College Access Mentor, Writing Tutor, and Religious Studies Tutor

Hello! My name is Nina and I am a senior at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. I have had experience tutoring people of all ages in essay writing since my sophomore year of high school. I have been a head editor of my school's literary magazine. This job required me to check grammar, organization, and sentence structure of essays, poems, prose, and other forms of writing. In my high school and collegiate years, I have had experience tutoring individuals from ages 10-40 years old and have adapted to various learning styles. In college, I am a music therapy student with a minor in interfaith studies, which enables me to write different types of essays regularly. For the last three years, I have been a tutor for my university's writing center. This has allowed me to work with various students of different ages and backgrounds, along with helping people write essays from all subjects (science, math, english, history, etc.). I have skills in compassionate mentorship through my major and I love to bring this into my tutoring. My goal is to help people gain confidence in their writing skills and give them the independence to take into their future academics. As a college student, I have experience with scholarship and college essay writing, academic writing (research, rhetorical analysis, argumentative, biographical, clinical, etc.), and creative writing (fiction, poetry, fantasy, etc.). I hope to provide affordable tutoring for those who cannot always afford the high price it takes to further their writing skills. Since I am in college, I am still learning how to be the best tutor possible, therefore I often charge less than that of a professional price.

Reading/Writing Tutor with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing

I am Abigale, a millennial living in Brooklyn, New York. I currently work as a reading/writing tutor for adult learners studying for GED exams and College Prep. I recently graduated from the New York City College of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Professional & Technical Writing. I graduated with honors and was awarded the status of Cum Laude for all of my efforts. I have also received Dean's List Honor five times. I have been writing for many years, and it has allowed me to learn new and interesting things about myself. I have learned that as long as I have dreams, I can write them down, and discover ways to make them come to fruition. Whether it’s by learning how to express myself more, or pursuing a thought, I am always in the process of learning about myself through writing. Since the art of writing and expression can be subjective, I have learned about condensing and compacting information so that it’s easily accessible to large and diverse groups of people. As a writer, my imagination tends to run wild, so I have adapted to creating content within the confines of the Plain Language Action and Information Network (PLAIN) federal guidelines. These guidelines have allowed me to be expressive and professional while ensuring that my audience understands the information being provided. I truly enjoy writing, and based on my accomplishments, I guess you can assume that I am good at what I do. I have written numerous pieces such as research papers, executive summaries, proposals, feasibility reports, manuals, and more. I am here to help and a session with me will allow you to learn so much about various writing styles and how to format papers for the best outcome. I will take my time to work with you and move at your pace. I will answer all of your questions to the best of my ability. I assure you, you will become a better writer if you take the time and put in the effort during our sessions. I look forward to working with you!

I have been integrally involved in helping my girls scout complete their highest awards. I am a mom of two high school students - a junior and a senior who are in the process of applying to selective colleges. I am currently coaching my daughter to complete 18 supplemental essays and her personal statement for the 2025 Fall application season. I was an English Literature major at Smith College and always immersed myself in stories. Writing is one of first loves. I look forward to working with students to find their inner voices and tell their unique stories.

Poet and Educator with Ivy-League Background

In 2015, I graduated with a bachelors in Comparative Literature from Princeton University where I was the recipient of two fellowship prizes: the Alex Adam Award for Creative Writing and the Henry Richardson Labouisse Fellowship. In 2018, I began pursuing a masters in creative writing at Cornell University with the financial support of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. Until the fall of 2022, I taught Introduction to Freshman Writing and Creative Writing courses at Cornell. My work in the English department earned me the Martin Sampson Teaching Award and the James F. Slevin Assignment Sequence Prize. Throughout my long journey in the academy, I have often applied to fellowship prizes that have required me to meaningfully tell my story and express my sense of purpose. In our sessions, I would bring my expertise as a successful fellowship applicant, the pedagogical skills I have developed as an educator and my creative writing insights to support you in telling an authentic story. In my practice as a writing teacher, I lead by asking you to consider the advice “no surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader” and subsequently involve you in a robust thinking process meant to lead you either to new revelations or to better questions. Although challenging, I hope the sessions will leave you invigorated and excited to return to your draft.
