As a special education teacher of 15 years, I have taught many levels of math. I have learned easy tools to help students break down problems to help them remember how to complete a math problem independently. I use different modalities, such as visual, hands-on, and auditory, for better understanding. This would look like teacher-led learning, teacher-student learning together, and the student practicing independently. To assist with focus and attention, lessons are taught in sections with built-in educational learning breaks as needed.
Students learn how math connects to the real world to help with practical applications and to give motivation in their learning.
