College Essay Writing and Criminal Justice Tutor

While essay writing is something that I do regularly for my work, I find that I enjoy the process and I have found additional joy in helping students build their skills as writers. It is a skill that provides benefits even outside of classroom settings as it helps us all communicate better with one another. My experience with essay writing in a professional capacity has most recently taken the form of numerous academic research essays. I have been working on my Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Studies for the past four years and I have written multiple research proposals and research studies during that period. Prior to my time in an academic setting, I worked in a municipal government position that saw me writing incident reports regularly. This helped me build experience in both condensing information in a professional and understandable way, but also honed my skills at writing effectively under a deadline. In addition to my professional writing experience, I have also spent the last two years tutoring students to better prepare themselves for the expectations of essay writing in college courses. I have experience both in my own classroom with students of my own, as well as students who seek out my assistance in general essay writing tutoring. Because of this dual-experience, I have an understanding of both what instructors generally look for pertaining to academic writing standards and what strategies help students in crafting effective essays. All of which makes me confident in both my abilities as an essay writing tutor, but also in how I can assist you in becoming the best writer that you can be.

Ivy-League Student/Graudate

I have applied, and gone, to both undergraduate and graduate schools and know first hand the power of a good essay, and the power of a great essay tutor. I worked with many essay tutors who showed me the tricks to use, and the pitfalls to avoid when writing these types of essays. And they were never very obvious, for high schools teach the power of an academic essay, with a thesis, topic sentence, conclusion etc etc. But they don't necessarily teach you how to have a voice, how to add whimsy, and how to add the magic that is YOU. This is where the tutors showed me the roads to success. I got into my top choices of schools, Wellesley College, Columbia University, and Yale University. I credit these victories in large part due to my essay, and my writing abilities in general. I think I may have even won an award for them from Mount Holyoke College. But that aside, I am passionate about telling stories, and communicating to an audience. And the admissions elves behind the scenes are a very specific type of audience, and are looking for magic sentences that are unique. This is where I can help. I am an actor, I just got my MFA from Columbia in acting, and I know how to perform under pressure and communicate something magical. I know how to win an audience over. Additionally, as an actor, one often has to write one's own material, or pitch something, or invite people, and I have done it all. I have helped peers in college with their essays, taken advanced writing classes, and written countless papers on Music History/theory, Ancient History, Physics,...and oddly enough I've written many papers on Hobbits. I believe that I have the je ne sais quoi, and the experience to help a student going through this daunting time, and give them the support they need to find their inner strength in their own voice.

Poet and Educator with Ivy-League Background

In 2015, I graduated with a bachelors in Comparative Literature from Princeton University where I was the recipient of two fellowship prizes: the Alex Adam Award for Creative Writing and the Henry Richardson Labouisse Fellowship. In 2018, I began pursuing a masters in creative writing at Cornell University with the financial support of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. Until the fall of 2022, I taught Introduction to Freshman Writing and Creative Writing courses at Cornell. My work in the English department earned me the Martin Sampson Teaching Award and the James F. Slevin Assignment Sequence Prize. Throughout my long journey in the academy, I have often applied to fellowship prizes that have required me to meaningfully tell my story and express my sense of purpose. In our sessions, I would bring my expertise as a successful fellowship applicant, the pedagogical skills I have developed as an educator and my creative writing insights to support you in telling an authentic story. In my practice as a writing teacher, I lead by asking you to consider the advice “no surprise for the writer, no surprise for the reader” and subsequently involve you in a robust thinking process meant to lead you either to new revelations or to better questions. Although challenging, I hope the sessions will leave you invigorated and excited to return to your draft.
