Full-Time Business Manager & Part-Time Professor - Offering Business/Accounting/Math Tutoring

Hi, my name is Jen and I am a full-time accountant and part-time professor who loves to work individually with students to help them succeed in their courses. My motto is that learning is "Mind Over Matter". I like to start with understanding what a student currently knows to build up their confidence and establish a base. Through the use of questioning techniques, students will actively be involved in their learning by providing responses to prompts as we walk through lessons personalized to students' individual needs. In lessons, I use real-life examples and applications to help students relate more to the materials. At the end of each lesson, I ask the student to summarize what we covered to test their understanding and continue to build up confidence focusing on the positive! I currently teach part-time as a professor in higher ed at an R1 research institute. I have privately tutored students for over 10 years in subjects such as Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Finance, Microeconomics, and Macroeconomics. Having my B.A. in Business Administration and Accounting, M.S. in Accounting and Business Advisory, and certificates in Forensic Accounting and Internal Auditing, allows me to have the knowledge and experience necessary to work with higher ed and high school students. Working as a full-time accountant allows me to use real-life industry examples for student applications.

I am a computer science major at the University of North Florida, and in the Fall of 2024, I will be graduating with a bachelor's degree. Being a computer science major means taking more advanced math subjects such as Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Linear Algebra, and other high-level math courses. I've scored proficiently in these classes, earning As in these courses minus Calculus 2, in which I earned a B. I am passionate about teaching this subject because I feel that in order to succeed in higher-level math courses, having a good understanding of Algebra is a necessity to help you perform well. It is the first math class that will test a student and give them a clue of what they will be facing when their education proceeds. I also just like teaching the subject as I've always loved doing Algebra. In my earlier years of education, I used to hate math and never really enjoyed doing it. Algebra was the first math subject that gave me genuine enjoyment and allowed me to overcome my hatred for mathematics. I loved it so much that I remember having discussions with my peers about certain problems, different ways of doing them, etc. I did very well in the class, earning one of the highest scores on the final in my class. My proficiency in the subject was great enough that my other classmates would come to me to ask for assistance when they struggled with their problems. I always loved helping, and sometimes, my simplified way of teaching the topic would my classmates truly understand it. My goal is to not only help students understand Algebra better but to also instill a level of respect and understanding of Algebra and math in general. read less
