Music Inspiration

I have a Bachelor of Education (with Music) from the University of Zambia and I have a Fellowship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music ABRSM in Principles of Instrumental Teaching, which is the highest qualification offered by ABRSM. To qualify for this, you must have past your Diploma (DipABRSM), Licentiate ABRSM, and obviouly prior to that, all Graded Music in both practical and theory of music. I encourage all my students to sit for the graded exam according to their level of proficiency. I sat for all these grades myself. I have been teaching various instruments, Piano being my major, for the last 15+ years and recently gained lots of experience teaching online. I just discovered another music examining body called Rock School which more fun and encompasses a wider genre of music. I am also Accredited by the Cambridge University to to teach and assess school-based Music Coursework in accordance with Cambridge regulations. I currently have classes in the US, at Healing Roots where I teach Music Theory and recorders and this is entirely online. I am a classroom music teacher working for a school called Trident College here in Zambia where I teach secondary school music. I have loads of experience working in the primary section too. In school I actually teach all instruments and I am quite proud to say that our school orchestra was established by myself from the scratch and it is now equipped with all sections including strings, woodwind and percussion. Every class has an instrumental ensemble where every learner is involved and plays at least one instrument. Our school was established in 2013 and i have been there since inception. I love to give opportunities to all my student to be examined by a separate world renowned examining body including ABRSM, Rock School and Trinity. Fun is an element which will never miss in my classes. I am available to teach for most of day time in most American time zones as it is evening for me here in Zambia.

Luther Blackwell
New Haven, CT

Luther unique talents as educator, instrumentalist, conductor, vocal coach, song writer.

I'm into cool stuff like making videos, helping with school, and saving important parts of our culture. I've done a bunch of awesome things that have made a big impact in the world of arts and learning. I work as a video person for Connecticut Schools, thanks to President Obama's idea called Arts and Humanities TurnAround Arts Initiative. Basically, I use cameras to tell stories that make learning more fun. I've captured how art can really change students' lives, making them feel more creative and powerful. Back in 2003, a musical I put together called "Marginal Saints" won a big prize at the New York International Fringe Festival. It was a cool moment where I showed how good I am at creating interesting stories on stage. I also made a documentary about the football legend Jim Brown, called "Jim Brown UNPLUGGED," using my skills in making films and telling stories. I'm also in charge of helping out DJ Tony Crush, who's the Founder and part of The Legendary Cold Crush Brothers. DJ Crush has been inducted into the Smithsonian African American History and Culture as one of the Pioneer of Hip-Hop Music. It's a big deal, and it shows how I care about keeping the legacy of important artists alive. I'm a super creative songwriter and have made more than 400 songs and music for shows in Off-Broadway. I've even worked with famous conductors such as: the late and great Leonard Bernstein of the New York Philharmonic, Seji Osawa of the Boston Symphony, Laurence Gilgore Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra, and Mr. Jessie Chapman Artistic, Director and Principal Conductor of the Westhill Chamber Singers, showing I can do lots of different things in the music world.
