I'm Shawn Forester from McComb, MS. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and Masters of Science in Communication Studies, both from the University of Southern Mississippi. I've always been a ... tutor for as long as I could remember. I often "just got it" in class and spent more time helping my classmates than I did on my own work. I've been a private tutor for pay for 17 years. I spent seven years as a long-time substitute teacher working with students grades 7-12 in the classroom setting in various subjects and absorbed the pedagogies of many veteran certified teachers. I have one specific philosophy when it comes to tutoring: I believe that the student I'm working with truly has the knowledge in their own heads but just requires targeted intervention to draw it out of their minds. When working with a student, I always begin by establishing a baseline knowledge and use those building blocks to relate to the current topic as a stairway to knowledge. Nothing makes me prouder than seeing the look of absolute comprehension as the student finally "gets it" after struggling for so long.
