I started learning Spanish after I traveled to Mexico and made friends in Latin America more broadly. I began using it in an occupational context when I worked in retail to help Spanish speakers make ... purchasing decisions, and later I worked in ESL classrooms with students with a wide range of English proficiency. Becoming conversational in Spanish as an older learner has given me the opportunity to reflect on the process of language acquisition in general and the obstacles that a novice faces. I continue to enrich my love of Spanish through an exploration and enjoyment of its literature, from Cervantes to Auturo Uslar Pietri. read more
