About
Hello all, I'm Joseph. I've had a passion for studying foreign languages since I was thirteen, studying Russian, Swedish, German, and Japanese primarily. I had my first taste of teaching English as a ... teenager when I helped English learners practice spoken conversation with me as part of a language exchange. Over these many years I've learned many do's and don't's of language acquisition, and am eager to share those and help more students learn English.
I'm a student of translation at Kent State University, where I will graduate in the spring, and I've also studied at Middlebury Language Schools where I learned some of my favorite language learning methods. I would love to share these with others, and team up with my students to discover what works best for them and nail down truly effective English language acquisition.
I'm a big proponent of repetition and exposure. I break vocabulary into subjects and over the course of multiple sessions reinforce their usage through repeated exposure in context and exercises. I prefer face-to-face, verbal lessons but I am also happy to prepare written materials.
Perhaps my favorite part of tutoring is the joy felt between teacher and student when something finally 'clicks.' I feel fulfilled when I know somebody has found success, and to have helped guide them there is delightful. I'm patient and adaptable, and I want to see my students succeed no matter how long it takes!
In my free time, I also sew, knit, and run a book club. Language, research, and writing are cornerstones of my personal life as well since I enjoy my own personal research projects. I am forever learning, and "always getting better" is my motto!read more
