José Luis Contreras Carrero, known by many as a musical virtuoso, was born in Mérida, Venezuela on november 1992. From an early age, he displayed an innate love for music, exploring a variety of instr... uments that would ultimately lead him to an extraordinary career.
His musical journey began with the guitar, cuatro (venezuelan traditional instrument similar to the ukulele), and bass, mastering each with finesse before embarking on a more focused path in jazz drumming. This musical voyage of self-discovery led him to the University of Los Andes in Mérida, Venezuela, where he immersed himself in the nuances and complexities of jazz.
Notably, José Luis served as the drummer for the prestigious Mérida Big Band Jazz, contributing his dynamic rhythms and energy to this esteemed ensemble.
One of the most notable milestones in his career was his role as the musical director of the ensemble "Tambores Bombaya," a unique fusion of Afro-Venezuelan music with influences from Latin jazz. As a music producer, José Luis was essential in bringing to life the successful albums of Tambores Bombaya and he has worked with a wide range of Venezuelan and international artists.
José Luis Contreras Carrero has taken his music across borders, from Venezuela to Brazil, Colombia, Curaçao, and the United States. His talent and versatility led him to collaborate with Venezuelan comedian David Comedia, where he served as the musical director of "La BanDañada." Together, they brought comedy and music to audiences in American cities such as Nashville, Orlando, Miami, Salt Lake City, New York, Louisville, Puerto Rico, Las Vegas, Raleigh, and Savannah, to name just a few.
