I recently acquired my 120 hour TESOL/TEFL Certification!!! Yay! For the past 2 years i have been assisting in an ESL in-person class. We have had students from all ages and walks of life. I grew up ... with dyslexia. I had to push extra hard in school. I attended an extra phonics and phonics awareness course. Actually, that is what made me fall in love with English. This is my native language. Before teaching ESL, i was a truck driver for 13 years. I have heard different accents from all over America. Spring Texas is where i live. Just north of Houston, but i would have to say Veracruz Mexico is where i call home. I love Mexico, and i go there when ever i can. I love fixing things around the house ... and working on cars. As a truck driver, i have had my fair share of breakdowns. My favorite part of tutoring second language students is imagining all of the new opportunities they will have because of this skill. My favorite strategy is to create lesson plans that directly relate to the students interests and goals. I find that this helps keep the student focused and present during the lesson.
