About
Hi! I'm Nancy, a history professor with fifteen years of experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Many students are apprehensive about history because they think it is boring or has n... o relevance to their lives, but I tell students that studying history is studying the human experience. In my classes, I treat my lessons like conversations with the students, and together we unpack the often complicated dynamics that have shaped human societies.
I am a first-generation college student and first in my family to graduate from college. My parents encouraged me to learn about our family's culture and history, and this led me to specialize in Mexican and Borderlands History. I teach courses in Latin American, Mexican, and Borderlands History, as well as U.S. Latino History and U.S. Immigration History. I also teach U.S. and World History, so I could work with high school students in AP courses.
My primary goal as an educator is to help students build their confidence and become strong analysts and writers. As a first-generation college student from a working-class background, I benefited immensely from having good mentors throughout my educational journey. I hope I can pay it forward and continue helping students reach their goals.read more
